New Treatment Options For Management of Teen Acne
Antibiotics, Topical skin drying agents and Accutane have all been used over the years with mixed results for long term Acne management.
Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin condition and occurs from excess oil production which blocks pores. Overgrowth of Propionibacterium acne leads to the classic painful, red pimples.
Antibiotics attempt to reduce infection but frequently stop working after few initial weeks and have undesirable side effects with long term use.
Topical anti acne skin agents can cause excess skin irritation, redness, dryness which exacerbate skin inflammation making acne worse after long term use.
Accutane has a number of potentially serious side effects and Roche discontinued Accutane in 2009 due to large number of lawsuits from serious side effects.
Birth control pills have been used for acne, I do not prescribe birth control pills for acne due to their side effects.
In my dermatology practice I have found that a combination treatment plan works best for most people. We tailor the acne treatment plan according to severity of acne and response to treatment. Generally we use the following acne treatment road map for management of teen acne:
- Topical Anti-inflammatory Acne skincare: with Naila MD youth acne system
- Lifestyle Modification: Low Glycemic index diet, diet low in saturated fats is “anti-inflammatory” and has been shown to improve acne. Regular physical activity, better stress management also reduce inflammation and help improve acne control.
- Oral anti inflammatory Vitamin supplements: like Niacinamide help manage more severe inflammatory acne cases
- Medical Treatments for refractory cases; A small number of acne patients need more than topical skincare, lifestyle modification and anti-inflammatory supplements for acne management. We treat these patients with a combination of medical treatments suited to their skin type and response.
I formulated The Naila MD Anti-inflammatory Youth acne treatment system for my acne patients after years of medical practice because I found that no matter what I prescribed for acne, no matter what medical treatment we did in the office, the long term improvement in acne was difficult to achieve without the basics:
- An adequate daily anti acne skincare program which provides acne control without causing skin irritation
- Lifestyle modification to reduce inflammation
Naila MD anti inflammatory youth acne system is formulated with high dose Salicylic acid and Benzoyl peroxide for acne treatment and contains tons of anti-inflammatory ingredients like Niacin, Aloe, Algae extract, Grapefruit extract, oatmeal extract to reduce inflammation. The Naila MD Anti-inflammatory youth acne system is also rich potent anti-oxidant ingredients, for healthier, more radiant skin in as little as 2 weeks of use
Dealing with Acne is frustrating and there is no QUICK way to improve a chronic skin condition. Over 90% of our patients experience improvement of acne, skin
texture, oil production and inflammation in as little as 2 weeks with our anti-inflammatory acne treatment system along with lifestyle modification.
Few patients have refractory acne lesions and take longer to improve. These patients may need additional medical treatments such as prescription oral antibiotics or prescription topical acne treatments for clearing their acne.
